Elijah Lewis Craig began his editorial career at Jacksonville, Illinois, in 1858 with the publication of the Bible Advocate. He began the Gospel Echo in 1864 at Carrollton, Illinois. These PDFs note the sale of the Gospel Echo to John Clopton Reynolds and its relocation to Macomb, Illinois.
The Gospel Echo was a survivor, being the patriarch in several later mergers, resulting in the emergence of the Christian-Evangelist as the dominant periodical for progressive Disciples.
